First woman to head exterior lighting firm

THE NEW managing director of Indo Lighting is believed to be the first woman to lead a major exterior lighting manufacturer in the UK.

Indo originally introduced induction lighting into the UK exterior lighting market. This project, for Southwark Council in London, saw Indo supply 300 street lights, where the main objectives were high reliability and low maintenance.

Rebecca Hatch, who has been Indo’s commercial director since 2017, took over the top job from company owner and co-founder Tom Baynham.

After 15 years in the exterior lighting sector, Hatch brings experience from her background in lighting design, consultancy and contracting.

Having graduating in 2018 with an MBA from London South Bank University, Hatch was selected by Indo’s board of directors as the person to lead the company into its next phrase.

Hatch is set to focus on delivering a five-year strategy for Indo which incorporates diversification into new markets outside of its core market of UK exterior lighting, including horticulture and export.

The company also has growth plans for the street lighting and rail markets including product development and expansion of the UK team over the coming year.

‘Rebecca is a very experienced director with the perfect combination of commercial expertise, people skills, drive and ambition which is exactly what the company is looking for now.  On behalf of all the directors and staff, I wish her continued success in this new role,’ said Tom Baynham, who becomes chairman.

‘I’d like to thank Tom, and the rest of the board, for the opportunity to help lead the on-going growth and success of Indo Lighting,’ said Hatch.

Indo, founded in 2007, originally supplied induction lighting. In 2010 it introduced LED products, firstly with the T5 replacement LED tube and then with the DirectDrive driver, which won a Queens award for innovation in 2017.

Indo is planning an aggressive move into the booming horticulture market in both UK and Europe. The Element horticultural top light was launched in 2017 and has since been refined to offer three standard spectra designed to delivery specific results with various crop types.
