Tamlite is first to get ICEL certification from LIAQA

TAMLITE Lighting, one of the UK’s largest privately-owned lighting companies, has secured Industry Committee for Emergency Lighting certification for the manufacture and testing of luminaires, the first manufacturer to have been granted ICEL membership via the LIAQA Scheme.

‘The [ICEL certification] gives our customers an added level of confidence,’ says Tamlite Lighting managing director John Allden.

The ICEL is a division of the Lighting Industries Association (LIA), representing the highest level of legislation in terms of luminaire quality, specialising in emergency lighting.

Membership of the ICEL confirms that Tamlite’s technologies and solutions are designed to be effective in the event of an emergency or loss of mains power, allowing a building’s occupants to evacuate quickly and safely.

Products and services complying with ICEL requirements are designed to be effective in a building emergency, especially when the normal mains supply fails, when fast panic-free evacuation is absolutely essential.

This is why UK legislation demands reliable emergency lighting to ensure that escape routes are properly illuminated so that people can see to get to a place of safety.

In the UK, ICEL experts represent the industry on BSI product and application standards committees, various government consultative groups and works closely with the Fire Industry Association.

Internationally, experts from ICEL contribute significantly to the development of amendments to existing standards and the drafting of new standards for emergency lighting products and applications.

Manufacturers, installers and suppliers of emergency lighting components need to be both a member of the LIA and ISO 9001:2015 certified to join ICEL.

John Allden, managing director at Tamlite Lighting told Lux: ‘Tamlite Lighting was a founding participant of the LIAQA scheme, and we have always been committed to its purpose.

‘The ICEL certification offers proof that we maintain extremely high standards within the manufacturing process of our emergency luminaires – and this gives our customers an added level of confidence. It is fair to say, reliability and quality are core aspects of our culture at Tamlite – we see both values as an essential pillars of our business practises.’
