What are the compliance rules for ‘stay put’ lighting?

This question was answered by Alan Daniels, commercial director of P4 Fastel.

The issue is whether or not luminaires used for ‘stay put’ lighting have to meet the same construction standards as emergency escape lighting, and be certificated by the manufacturer or converter of the luminaires in the same way.

The answer is yes, they need to be constructed to comply with the requirements of (BS) EN 60598-2-22 in exactly the same way as any other luminaire used for emergency lighting, including the conversion of any mains lighting luminaire for emergency operation. They need to be CE marked demonstrating compliance with all appropriate directives and standards.

Compliance may be confirmed through third party testing and certification or through self-declaration.
