What will be the killer apps of IoT lighting?

THAT'S what the judges of an exciting new category in the Lux Awards are looking for. The Connected Lighting Concept of the Year, sponsored by full-stack IoT-lighting supplier Gooee, is a special category for 2017. It will celebrate imaginative ways of using lighting to create real value for clients.

For instance, it could be an app which allows retailers to communicate with customers using the lighting. Or an asset-tracking platform that allows hospitals to locate high-value pieces of equipment. Or a service in which data from lighting is used to create useful, actionable information for building owners. It could even just be an idea for a compelling use-case.

After all, luminaires can now produce data such as presence detection and location, temperature, air quality, humidity, traffic density and speed and well as link to other devices such as mobile phones, machinery and RFID tags.

It’s the application, not the hardware, that’s important here.

Best of all, shortlisted entrants to this category get to pitch their service or idea to senior industry and tech experts at the Gooee Arena at LuxLive 2017 on Thursday 16 November. And who knows where that could lead? They will also receive a free VIP place at the Lux Awards. The winner will win a trip with a colleague to Gooee’s cutting-edge IoT Test Centre in Clearwater, Florida.

The winner will be announced that same night at the Lux Awards 2017 presentation ceremony at the InterContinental London - The O2.

This category reflects the exciting new possibilities opening up in the market and point to a future where lighting and the internet fuse together to save energy, deliver a responsive environment and create new digital services,’ says chairman of the judges Ray Molony.

Due to its special status, the Connected Lighting Concept of the Year has a later closing date for entries than the standard categories of the Lux Awards. All entries should be received by Monday 23 October.

A special webinar on this category takes place at 1pm BST on Wednesday 6 September 2017. To register, email events@luxreview.com.
