8 emergency lighting innovations you need to know about
Never has emergency lighting been so important – or so fast moving. Technology is making equipment smaller, smarter and better. We’ve round up eight of the latest developments…
ABB’s Serenga 2
No ceiling is too high for the newest Serenga. The compact Serenga 2 from ABB allows emergency lighting to be mounted at heights of up to 12 metres. At a regular three-metre ceiling height, spacings of 23 metres can be achieved.
The futuristic design combines the highest degree of operational reliability with specific lighting distributions for corridors, open spaces and stairwells. Serenga 2 allows you to make a choice based on aesthetics without having to make concessions in terms of the technical functionality of emergency lighting.
BLE mini static inverters
The BLE range of mini static inverters have been engineered with the LED lighting market in mind, offering a compact, cost-effective solution for powering multiple LED luminaires in the event of mains failure. Available in a range of outputs up to 400W, they can be used to support dedicated emergency luminaires, or standard, unmodified luminaires that are part of the wider lighting scheme, including high-risk task areas.
BLE Lighting and Power also offers a range of single and three-phase static inverters up to 80kVA, designed specifically for emergency and ‘stay put’ lighting applications, and which can be integrated with DALI control systems.
Eaton i-P65+ high-bay emergency luminaire
Eaton’s i-P65+ combines the performance of a traditional high-bay emergency luminaire with the aesthetics of the Eaton i-P65 to create a robust, multifunctional high-powered surface-mounted luminaire. I-P65+ provides a superior alternative to traditional twin spot projectors.
The i-P65+ is available with either a die-cast aluminium or high-impact polycarbonate base. It’s IP65 rating makes it ideal for industrial applications, with its aesthetic appearance making it suitable for commercial applications where a higher level of emergency illumination is required, for example high-risk task areas. Mid-bay and high-bay versions are available to suit a range of applications.
HotSpot Plus from Fulham
HotSpot Plus is the new all-in-one LED driver, emergency driver and battery backup for Europe. Complying with all relevant European standards, including those for emergency lighting, Fulham’s new HotSpot Plus eliminates typical wiring and installation costs usually associated with emergency lighting circuits.
HotSpot Plus is a one single case unit with a maximum 45W dimmable LED driver integrated with cable clamp, loop-in/out connectors for mains input and LED output connectors to the luminaire. The compact unit has an integrated replaceable battery with a discharge capacity from 1W for nine hours, up to 6W for 90 minutes.
Liteplan - S-DLP/3
Liteplan’s S-DLP/3 is a DALI self-test emergency LED which operates with lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries. The 3W LED provides around 200lm of light in emergency. Not only are the units fully DALI compliant but also feature diagnostics that provide evidence of how many times the unit has been discharged prior to connection to the operating system.
This information is invaluable in warranty conversations and protects the OEM. The batteries used with this product offer a 6-8 year life and consume far less power. The complete unit is offered with a four year warranty.
P4’s new M-web FWSD
Emergency lighting specialist P4 introduces the new M-web FWSD Central Supervision Unit. Long recognised as the most reliable and effective system in the UK, P4’s industry leading Fully Automatic Self-Testing Emergency Lighting (Fastel) monitoring and control system includes exciting new features:
- Touchscreen display with password-controlled access for local indication and management of the system
- Combination of wired and wireless communication
- Monitoring and control of up to 15,750 luminaires, significantly reducing infrastructure and installation costs
- Additional layer of security to prevent unauthorised access
- Dynamic IP addressing ability, rather than a static IP address
Parhelion LDG emergency lighting
Typical emergency lighting gets blocked by fire and smoke. What if a new, disruptive lighting technology was available that could penetrate smoke, allowing people to have improved visibility when trying to escape?
Now it is. Parhelion has developed its award-winning LDG technology combining laser as a light source with nano-technology. This results in a unique and disruptive emergency light improving visibility in smoke-filled environments.
Philips TrustSight
The application of LED technology in the lighting sector requires integration of safe and reliable emergency lighting equipment inside luminaires. Philips’ range of TrustSight emergency lighting components offer easy design-in and are compatible with all dimmable and non-dimmable LED drivers.
They can be used with Fortimo, CertaFlux and third-party LED modules. The TrustSight emergency driver is designed for indoor use in linear, panel, point source, waterproof and industrial luminaires. Basic, self-test and DALI variants are available and the kits come complete with three-hour battery packs and indicator.
