A quick tour of the Lux Awards' glittering new venue

After a few years of fun at the Troxy in London’s East End, the Lux Awards is moving to a glamorous new venue.

This year’s festivities will take place at The Intercontinental London: The O2, which opened in January this year. Located on the Greenwich Peninsula, next door to the iconic O2 arena, the nautical themed hotel, which brings to mind the elegant ocean liners of the Twenties and the novels of F.Scott Fitzgerald, boasts five restaurants and bars. These include the Peninsula Restaurant, the stunning rooftop Eighteen Sky Bar, and the Clipper Bar that provides a 270-degree panorama across the Thames and towards the high-altitude Canary Wharf.

Tables are on sale now and you can find out more here.

Lighting is a very important feature of the hotel interior, from the impressive lighting details in the double-height entrance lobby where guests can visit the Meridian Lounge, inspired by the nearby Greenwich Meridian, to the plethora of intimate opportunities for dining and drinking.

The Lux Awards will take place in the Arora Ballroom, a 32,300 sq.ft space that is one of the largest pillar-free spaces in Europe and capable of seating over 1000 people.

Equipped with a state of the art lighting control system, the ballroom is fitted with dramatic colour-change lighting and a startling array of narrow-beam downlighting.

The Ballroom installation consists of an array of remotely adjustable downlights and colour-changing coffers. The adjustable downlights, from Remote Controlled Lighting (RCL), enable each individual tabletop to be spotlit, via a DMX lighting control system from iLight.

The downlights are synchronized with the dynamic colour-changing ceiling coffer to provide bespoke settings for the hotel. The downlights are fitted with 8-degree optic, 2700K LED modules. An excellent colour response is provided by the 90+ Colour rendering.

At the heavyweight end of the scale, there are 64 one-ton rigging points that allow a full theatrical lighting performance for corporate events.
