When browsing the Galleria Mall on Al Maryah island in Abu Dhabi, you might not expect to stumble across a cosy French-style bistro among the glamorous shops.
The heritage-inspired interior of the Bentley Bistro & Bar was designed by Jon Bentley of hospitality design consultancy Harrison, with lighting designed by DPA.
The lighting design team worked with the bistro’s operator Food Fund and the interior designer to help create a unique interior. The lighting is visual dominated by the various decorative pendants, wall lights and table lamps.
For the tables and bar area, sufficient functional lighting had to be provided, without disturbing the moody ambience of the bistro. Lighting equipment needed to be hidden from view as much as possible. At the slatted ceiling, suspended spotlights, hidden between the beams, provide focal glow to the tables underneath.
Concealed linear lighting complements the carefully selected materials of the low partitions and seating furniture. In the lounge, linear uplighting enhances the texture of the red brick wall.
The bar features discreet lighting integrated to the bottle display to provide a focal point. The lighting has been concealed in the display to highlight the bottle labels when the louvres are open and to create a subtle glow when louvres are closed.
