NSW Government to train lighting suppliers and installers

The New South Wales government is getting further involved in lighting education, targeting lighting suppliers and installers with training sessions.

The Office of Environment and Heritage Energy hopes to help speed up the energy efficiency revolution in the lighting market, and will meet with Lighting Council Australia in Sydney next week to outline the initiative and get feedback on the sustainability of the training modules.

The training sessions will provide guidance on compliance requirements and best practice for lighting vendors, with particular attention to AS1680, specifications and testing.

An overview of the New South Wales Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) and its relevance to lighting will be included in the training.

The training is launched in response to research which shows that the government’s existing Energy Efficient Lighting Technology Report, which was designed for end users, is also attracting an audience of lighting suppliers and installers.

A third-party survey found that one third of all readers of the report were suppliers and installers, who find it useful to aid with advising customers and stocking lights. The installers in particular registered an interest in receiving further lighting training.
