Canberra’s Christmas lights break world record - again

The Christmas lights in Petrie Plaza in Canberra’s central business district CBD have broken the Guinness World record for the largest LED image display, ABC reports.

Over a million lights have been switched on, carrying on an annual tradition that was started by the Richards family of Forrest. The Richards family first broke the record in 2011, but were briefly overtaken by a family in New York before reclaiming their position in 2013.

The family has previously broken the record by decorating their own home, but moved the display to the CBD this year.

The light show raises money for sudden infant death syndrome and Kids ACT, a charity that assists families affected by SIDS in Canberra.
