LEDs to overtake fluorescent in 2014

For the first time ever, lighting professionals expect to install more LED than fluorescent fixtures over the coming year, an American survey claims.

When asked which lighting technology they expect to install more in 2014, 49 per cent of the surveyed lighting professionals selected LED, while 46 per cent selected fluorescent. In last year’s survey, 26 per cent of respondents selected LED, and 68 percent indicated fluorescent, when asked the same question.

As well as predicting what will be installed in the year ahead, the survey participants indicated that 37 per cent of the fixtures they had installed last year had been LED. That’s up from 27 percent in 2012, and 13 percent in 2011.

The annual study is conducted by the lighting manufacturer Precision-Paragon.
