Toshiba shifts focus from lamps to luminaires

Toshiba is shifting the focus of its European and US lighting businesses from lamps to luminaires.

The company plans to sign at least three partnerships to manufacture luminaires in Europe, in a bid to become the region’s third-largest supplier of LED products.

Luminaires ‘are key for expansion as clients increasingly demand complete systems to integrate LEDs to homes, offices and factories,’ François Seguineau, head of Toshiba’s European lighting business, told Bloomberg.

The Japanese company has also restructured its operations in the US. Günter Manske, sales and marketing director in Europe, said: ‘We’ve identified streetlighting as our main target segment [in the US].’
