LEDs now 30% of sales at Philips

Sales of LED products now account for almost a third of all Philips Lighting sales, the latest figures reveal.

The results for the months of June, July and August this year reveal that, compared to the same period last year, overall sales increased by 3 per cent, driven by demand for Lumileds LED components, car lighting, lamps and control gear. But sales at Professional Lighting Solutions and consumer luminaires fell in the same period.

LED-based sales grew by 33 per cent and now represent 30 per cent of total lighting sales. Profit margin excluding restructuring and acquisition-related charges was 10.2 per cent, a year-on-year improvement of 3.9 percentage points.

Cost-cutting and streamlining programmes were continuing and were yielding results, the company said in a statement.
