Philips ends incandescent trade in NZ

Philips has announced it will phase out the supply of its trade range of incandescent Softone lamps to its electrical wholesalers in New Zealand from 1 October.

David Procter of Philips New Zealand told Lux the company wanted to focus on more energy-efficient options.

He said: 'We will still be selling our retail incandescent lamp models, and expect this to contiune until a market-wide government phase-out plan is developed and implemented. The New Zealand government currently has no plans to do this unlike many other countries around the world.

'As the leader in energy-efficient lighting in the New Zealand market we believe this is an important step to take, particularly as there are now a number of cost effective and longer-life replacement products in the market which provide much better energy savings for customers.'

Philips has seen a significant rise in LED sales in New Zealand over the past two years as businesses and consumers begin to make the switch.
