Lamppost receives threatening letter

A New Zealand electricity company has sent a letter to a lamppost threatening to cut its power off.

The letter from Meridian Energy was addressed: To the occupier, 771800 Streetlights, NPDC Control Point 394, 9 Shearer Drive. Clive Saleman, who lives at 9 Shearer Drive and thought the letter was for him, told the Taranaki Daily News: ‘We were a little bit alarmed about what was going to happen to us. Then we thought, hang on a minute, we’re not with Meridian Energy, we’re with Nova Energy.

‘We started to think, maybe it’s not actually for us, it’s actually for the streetlight.’

The streetlight has been given seven days to respond or its power supply is going to be cut off. It could not be reached for comment.
