TED speaker joins line-up at retail lighting event

A TED speaker and co-founder of a cutting-edge software company has been named as a keynote speaker for Lux’s upcoming Connected Lighting in Retail conference.

Andy Hobsbawm, co-founder and chief marketing officer of IoT specialist EVRYTHNG, was named as one of the Top 10 Digital Influencers by Wired magazine.

Hobsbawn will discuss how Internet-connected lighting in stores can interact with customers to drive sales.

‘We’re really delighted to have Andy join the speaking team at the Connected Lighting in Retail conference,’ said organiser Ray Molony. ‘He’ll give us great insights into how this technology is already being deployed around the world.’

EVRYTHNG makes products smart by connecting them to the Internet. It helps retailers and others to connect directly with customers through their own products and stores to operate smarter, and connect their products into the digital ecosystem. EVRYTHNG backers include Cisco and Samsung.

Hobsbawn will discuss specifically how a combination of lighting and smart labels or RFID tags can implement inventory and merchandise tracking to reduce shrinkage and make the supply chain logistics more efficient.

The conference – to be held in central London on Wednesday 27 September – will explore how the Internet of Things is set to revolutionise retail. Speakers will look at the pitfalls and potential from real-life projects.

Ray Conboy of Luxonic will share the learnings from the installation of an IoT installation at a major UK supermarket.  He’ll explain the benefits and logistics of installing a visible lighting communications system through a standard store.

Gary Bennett of Aurora will discuss how the German car manufacturer BMW is pioneering IoT lighting at its flagship showroom in Munich to give customers an immersive, personalised experience in testing, selecting and purchasing a new model.

Jamie Cameron of Enlighted will discuss how connected lighting is creating a multitude of new opportunities in retail to improve business processes and generate actionable data. He’lll show how the technology is currently being deployed.
