Revealed: LuxLive centrepiece arena to focus on IoT

THE CENTRAL arena of this year’s LuxLive exhibition will focus on the exciting digital applications of ‘connected lighting’, organisers have revealed.

Plans for the Gooee IoT Arena were unveiled in London this week. It includes technology pods, break-out spaces, a market place and a stage with a rolling programme of talks, presentations and panel discussions on the digital revolution now transforming the lighting sector.

The arena is hosted by Gooee, the pioneers of internet-connected lighting technology, and it will be at the heart of LuxLive 2017, taking place on Wednesday 15 November and Thursday 16 November in ExCeL London.

The programme will include presentations and demonstrations of Power over Ethernet, Li-Fi – the internet and data delivered using visible light rather than radio waves –  and Bluetooth mesh, all technologies which could radically change traditional lighting.

A series of workshops will see experts explain how connected lighting can deliver a range of new services to building owners

Real-world case studies will explored, included connected lighting installations at BMW flagship showroom in Munich, Absa Bank branches in South Africa and the Petrie Museum in London.

Application areas to be examined include asset and people tracking, space utilisation, inventory control, proximity services and marketing and environment monitoring.

A series of workshops will see experts explain how building management systems can be integrated with digital lighting, how security risks can be minimised and how stores can interact with customers to increase basket sizes and track merchandise’

‘The Gooee IoT Arena will be the place to be at LuxLive this year,’ says LuxLive director Ray Molony.

‘It will be a complete ecosystem which will bring together technology, software and lighting, and more importantly it will bring together the people who are shaping the digital future of this industry.’

‘Bill Gates said that we often overestimate the impact of a technology in two years, but underestimate it in 10 years.

'We saw that with the LEDs revolution in the industry over the last decade, and I think we’re seeing a repeat of it with connected lighting. Therefore it’s gratifying to see lighting manufacturers and customers starting to get to grips with the technology.

‘This arena is designed to accelerate that learning and adoption and I think its timing is perfect as we approach the cusp of connected lighting.  It’s been great to work with the team at Gooee to bring the IoT Arena to life and we look forward to welcoming everyone in November.’
