Abu Dhabi light chief Valentine quits for design role

THE FORMER lighting expert for the municipality of Abu Dhabi Martin Valentine is to take an executive design role in Europe with Thai lighting manufacturer Ligman.

Valentine – who was named LuxLive Middle East’s ‘Person of the Year’ in 2016 for his role in influencing energy-efficient standard in the region –  becomes UK-based global design director of the company.

Martin Valentine receives the LuxLive Middle East Person of the Year award in 2016 for his role in influencing energy-efficient lighting standards across the region. He's presented with the award by LuxLive Middle East sales director Peter Rowledge, left, and Ray Molony, LuxLive Middle East director.

Velentine will help define Ligman’s interior and exterior product research and development and liaise with the international lighting design community and clients concerning technology, quality, standards, training, events and marketing.

A Masters graduate from the Bartlett School of Architecture, his experience encompasses a multitude of sectors from government buildings through to national museums, for environments as uniquely diverse as Antarctica and the Middle East, and undertaking varied roles within these spheres from both the designer and client sides.

In Abu Dhabi, his work included leading the implementation of an Emirate-wide Sustainable Lighting Strategy, revising all Municipal lighting standards through cross-working with other government stakeholders and establishing award-winning new lighting design best practices.

Valentine told Lux: ‘I’m very excited about the new role. I have respected Ligman and their products for many years and they quickly gained my admiration for their vision and quality.’

Also joining the company this month is Craig Stead, who takes up the position of UK and EU sales director. Stead previously held management and director positions within Philips, Urbis-Schreder, Prologic and Nualight. Ligman president and CEO Sakchai Manawongsakul said: ‘Both Martin and Craig are highly respected figures with proven track records and I warmly welcome them to Ligman Lighting. This is great news for Ligman and for our existing and future customers.’
